Hi, I'm Elizabeth Coll
Councilwoman • Mother • Nurse Practitioner • Advocate
I've been an actively involved resident of Glen Rock for 25 years. I understand what matters to Glen Rock residents because I have lived the same experiences, challenges and triumphs.
I joined Newcomers and Neighbors when I moved to Glen Rock in 2000 and made lifelong friends. In 2003, I served as President of the Glen Rock Cooperative Nursery School. As a working mother, my children attended Glen Rock public school’s Pre-K, KinderPlus and AfterCare programs. I volunteered for everything from Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, to the Central School Haunted House, to coordinating the band tent for the Fun Fair, to leading the security and first aid team for Grad Ball. My family enjoyed the Glen Rock Pool, attended countless July 4th Parades and Fall Street Fairs, and, oh, how we loved the Halloween Parade!
My children are musicians. They performed at the high school Coffee Houses and Cabarets, the Farmer’s Market, Relay for Life, the Fun Fair and attended Architekt Music on Lincoln Avenue. Glen Rock has always supported the Arts, and for that I am grateful.
It's this spirit of community that makes Glen Rock such a special place to live and raise a family.
I support our local law enforcement officers and fire and ambulance volunteers and I am grateful for the selfless service they provide to our community every day. In 2015, I created a crowd-fund for police officers McInerney and Scott after they were unjustly suspended without pay. That effort raised over $14,000, which they later donated back to the community when they were reinstated.
I sold my first home on Hamilton Avenue in 2006 and had to replace my sidewalks to get my CO. We survived 5 trees falling on our second Glen Rock home on Beech Road during Hurricane Sandy. A couple of years ago, I put an addition on my home and experienced firsthand the permit application and inspection process.
I understand Glen Rock and the issues our residents face because I have lived them.
Professional Career:
I have been a registered nurse since 1993 and a nurse practitioner since 1998. I obtained my masters degree from Columbia University in 1998 and a doctorate in nursing from Rutgers in 2015. My integrity as a healthcare provider is of the utmost importance to me and I take my role seriously. I believe I bring the same level of integrity to the role of council member.
Why I'm Running
Last Fall, I submitted an application to fill a vacancy on the Borough Council because I love Glen Rock and I wanted to give back to the community that has given me so much. I was honored to be selected. Now, I'm running to complete the one-year unexpired term to which I was appointed. I've worked hard to learn the ropes during my first six months. I attended the New Jersey League of Municipalities Orientation for Newly Elected Officials and the Budgeting for Elected Officials courses. As a member of the planning board, I attended the Land Use for Board Members course. I take my commitments seriously and my priority is to serve the residents.
As the liaison to the Business Commission, I surveyed all local businesses and commercial property owners this Spring to assess their needs. The results provided us with a list of priorities to help Glen Rock businesses thrive. Our next goal is to review and revise our parking ordinance and launch a unified marketing campaign for all Glen rock businesses.
As the liaison to the Board of Health, I introduced a resolution to the council supporting a county initiative to place Narcan in all of our AED cabinets. The Board of Health will use the money obtained from the settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family to replace our old AED cabinets with new weather proof containers that include AEDs and Narcan. Additionally, we will install a heated container at Faber field for year-round access at our most heavily used recreation area.
I have been outspoken about my opinions. I believe that transparency and resident involvement are critical for the future of Glen Rock. I voted no on the budget that increased our taxes. I have pushed hard to separate the CFO and Administrator roles. I opposed the revised sidewalk ordinance and advocated for a comprehensive Municipal Sidewalk Program. I fought to keep the proposed nuisance ordinance off the table. I am running to finish the job that I started.
